Overview
At El Roble Drive, what began as an emergency landslide repair evolved into a complete hillside transformation. Located in Beverly Hills, this property’s backyard was overtaken by a slope failure during the rainy season, leaving little more than debris. Our design reclaims the site with terraced structure, resilient planting, and a series of elegant outdoor rooms. The result is a dynamic and enduring hillside landscape—equal parts functional and beautiful—that supports everyday living while anticipating a future architectural remodel.

Slope Stabilization & Renewal
The first step was stabilization. Terraced retaining walls now secure the slope, transforming a hazardous backdrop into a framework for daily use. These walls not only support the hillside but also frame a sequence of outdoor destinations that flow naturally from the home.

A Backyard Centerpiece: The Water Wall
At the heart of the rear yard, a dramatic patterned water wall anchors the space. Its sculptural tile work and cascading sound establish a focal point visible from the house, kitchen terrace, and lounge areas. A hovering overlook deck above the wall creates a new vantage point for reflection and entertaining, adding vertical drama to the garden.

Outdoor Rooms for Living & Entertaining
From the house outward, the design unfolds as a series of interconnected terraces:
  • – An outdoor kitchen and bar seamlessly extend the interior.
  • – A dining terrace under preserved olive trees hosts family gatherings and formal entertaining.
  • – A fire pit lounge and built-in seating bring warmth and intimacy to the evenings.
  • – A cold plunge tucked into lush planting offers a restorative counterpoint to the active program.
Each space is woven into the topography with intention, creating a retreat that feels both expansive and private.

Front Yard Transformation
The design also reshaped the front yard into a park-like approach. Once utilitarian, this entry now features softened planting, sculptural paving, and layered greenery that set a gracious tone before arrival at the home.
